Do your efforts map to your results? If not, that could be a strong indicator that you're operating outside of your strengths. Continuing the symptoms series, let's look at one that also has some objective measures associated with it.

Welcome to the I'm Josh Newton Show where it is all about putting your potential into practice. Today we're going to continue the symptom series by it going over symptom number for that you're operating outside of your strengths.
Symptom number 4 might be something where you need some outside help or you might actually be getting this feedback from your environment. In symptom number four, you're busy, you're doing a lot of stuff you have a lot going on, and you may even feel stressed but you're not getting the most important things done. This could mean you're not getting to check things off of your to-do list. This might mean that your boss is constantly on you about getting a project done that you think should be going a lot faster or you should be getting done in a much shorter amount of time with a lot less stress. You may even have people kind of questioning why you feel so busy and why you're so overwhelmed but, for you, it just feel like you're buried it feels like you have so much going on but at the end of the day, you don't have a lot to attach your name to and say I accomplished that, I got that done here in feel proud of what you actually accomplished.
When you're operating within your strength we like to say you have maximum effectiveness with minimum weariness. So this means you are getting a lot of stuff done, you feel like you're plowing through things, you're kind of crushing it, you're checking things off your to-do list, and it almost doesn't feel like you're exerting a lot of energy. It doesn't feel like you're using a lot of mental stamina to actually accomplish those tasks. But if you're operating outside of your strengths, you're going to have the exact opposite feeling. It's going to feel like you're really sludging through it, it's something you really have to focus on, you to put all of your energy and all of your time into it but you may not even be seeing the results that you're expecting or you may not be meeting the results that other people are expecting in the situation.
I've mentioned them a bit as I've gone through and talked about this symptom but there's a couple of things you want to look out for or pay attention to if you feel like you might be exhibiting this symptom. Number one is feedback. So if you feel like you're really working hard, if you feel like you're really hustling, you're putting all of your energy and maybe you even feel burnt out and tired at the end of the day but you're getting feedback that the results aren't there. That is a really strong indicator that this symptom applies to you.
If you're somebody who keeps your own to-do list and you have to manage your own tasks, take a look at the amount of things that you get done throughout the day. Especially when you feel this overwhelmed feeling you feel like you've been working really hard when you've been really using a lot of energy to get stuff done, take a look at your done list and if it's pretty empty for the amount of effort that you're putting in, that's a strong indicator that this symptom applies to you.
This is actually one of the reasons why in my Trello to do list I always have the done column pretty far to the left, which I don't think is very typical, but I like to be able to see on a regular basis what am I actually accomplishing what am I getting done and does that match up with the amount of effort and energy that I'm putting into things? If it doesn't, I need to take a look at what I'm doing and decide if there's somebody else who might need to take those tasks who can get them done more efficiently who isn't going to expend a lot of energy on those tasks and who's probably going to get them done better anyways.
So take a look at what you're accomplishing, ask somebody around you, pay attention to the feedback you're getting, and decide if this is a symptom that applies to you. If it does, see if there's something you can do about that. Can you put yourself in a slightly different role? Can you the delegate some of your tasks and some of the things that are really weighing you down to somebody else who is going to do them better anyways? Or are you just really in the wrong place and you need to take a hard look at the decisions you made and the circumstances you put yourself in and decide if you need to make a major change?
